Wild Game’s Wild Ride at the Houston Rodeo BBQ Cookoff

Saturday’s Houston Rodeo BBQ cookoff event was incredible. As usual, the smells were intoxicating, the sounds captivating and the crowds eye-pleasing! I tried food from a couple of tents, and the best one this night was Wild Game. We’ve been to this tent every year for the past 6 years, and this year’s event was the best. This tent has a new name this year (our Wild Game contacts were formerly with Road Kill BBQ Cookers), and the organizers certainly lived up to the name. Previously, the tent had a Mardi Gras theme–repelate with flasher and all–but now it’s more of what I would call a Western fiesta theme: a mix of pinatas, a mechanical bull, two dancing cages, a stripper pole (seriously) and two long bars for serving drinks (they also serve as platforms for scantily-clad dancers and party-goers).

DJ Senega had everyone on their feet, except the two guys who had a stripper pole dance-off. These guys showed off their comedic and acrobatic skills with enthusiasm. That was followed by severalHouston Texan’s cheerleaders dancing on the bar, followed by beautiful Crown Royal girls.

A fun and silly mood reigned at the Wild Game tent, and after dancing for a while many party goers had to head back to the food line. Brisket, potato salad, baked beans, BBQ sauce and sausage were on the menu. The brisket was some of the best I’ve had. Not sure if they won the cook off, but they have my vote.

I laughed so much my abs and face hurt, and after riding the mechanical bull I hurt all over. I just love the Houston Rodeo!
