This Ain’t Your Grandma’s Mac ‘N Cheese.

If there is a childhood dish with a special place in many hearts, it has to be macaroni and cheese. Mac ‘n cheese is such a simple concept that it transcends cultures and borders with ease, hitting the spot for countless fans of all ages.

The first time I visited Jus Mac in the heart of the Houston Heights was on Mother’s Day of this year. My mom, my kids, husband and me were all very happy with our choices of mac ‘n’ cheese, and that is not easy to do given how very picky we all are.

Jus Mac is based on a grandma’s recipes of course! Kimberly Alvarez’s grandma, Nanny, passed on the secrets to Kimberly who cooked them for her husband Patrick chef at Jus Mac. As some say, the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, and Jus Mac has found its way to my heart and to the hearts of many others in the same way.

Now for what I ate this time:

Pit Master; brisket topped with Colby Jack and BBQ sauce lightly sweet.

Taco Mexi; beef, tomatoes, onions, avocados topped with Colby jack and chips. The taco flavor of this mac ‘n’ cheese is great and the avocado flavor contrasts perfectly.

Buffalo Chicken; pan seared chicken, thick lab bacon, Frank’s hot sauce topped with blue cheese. Buffalo chicken is not on my list of must haves, but it now is here!

I have also tried the Italiano, Big Blue and the Rustic mac ‘n’ cheese ALL were big hits with me. Here’s what it’s like in person:

Endless Varieties of ‘Mac ‘n Cheese’:

The incredible flexibility of macaroni makes this place a stroke of genius, but there are other non mac ‘n’ cheese items on their menu. Grandma Nanny’s chocolate cake with chocolate icing topped with toasted pecans is available and delicious.

Not feeling like mac ‘n’ cheese? Don’t sweat it, the menu also includes paninis, salads and even some gluten free items. All that is left to say is thank you Nanny for your delicious mac ‘n’ cheese!

More delicious mac n cheese to come when Jus’ Mac opens their second location in Sugar Land later this year.
